  “Perhaps you’re wrong. Keno works for Liam, and Liam is making these deals with Aurik and Ivan. Liam would have to tell Keno to stand down,” Falco said to them.

  “There’s something you guys should know,” Jonah stated and then looked toward the staircase. Clark knew that Dane was upstairs with Pina. He was planning on going to see her as soon as their friends left the house.

  “What’s that?” Mercury asked.

  “You know what Pina said about owing Liam money years ago and about not knowing that Liam was L.R., the man she had to pay the debt to?” Jonah asked Mercury.

  “If he were to find out—”

  Aurik’s eyes widened in shock at not only who was calling him but his orders.

  “Call it off, or it will go so far that I will not protect you. Mercury James and his brothers are mine to destroy.”

  Aurik clenched his teeth as the phone clicked off. He placed it on the desk and then slammed his hand down on the desk.

  “What was that all about?” Ivan asked him.

  “We have to end this. We can no longer try to destroy Mondave, and we cannot progress with the business with Nolan and Liam.”

  “Why the fuck not?” Ivan asked.

  “Because Molokai Volupus just gave the order.”

  Ivan’s eyes widened in shock, and then he narrowed his eyes at Aurik.

  “After all we’ve done, and what about the woman?”

  “Done. I need to call Liam right now and end this.”

  He picked up his cell phone. The feeling of weakness at having been ordered by a higher criminal power than himself truly ate at his ego. He had felt victorious, powerful, and indestructible, yet one phone call had ended it all.

  He put the call on speaker as Ivan moved to the front of his desk, looking ready to kill someone. The man loved the sight of blood and causing pain. He’d been prepared to take the Mondave men out, and now he couldn’t.

  “Liam, without getting into any details, I’m calling off this assault against the Mondave men. I’m calling Nolan next and letting him know the deal and contract we made is off.”

  “What? No, you can’t do this when we’re so close. I lost more than a million dollars in art last night when those bastards set my warehouse on fire.”

  “It doesn’t matter. Cut your losses and be done. There’s something bigger brewing.”

  “Nothing can be bigger than destroying the Mondave men and the James men.”

  “It’s how it must be.”

  “Wait, there’s some information you should know. I found out about it through very good trusting sources.”

  “What? Nothing could make me dishonor a command from a higher criminal power like the one who just called me and ordered me to stop.”

  “I know who killed your brother Daphnee in Germany,” Liam told him.

  “What?” Aurik asked and leaned forward in his seat. Ivan placed his hands on the front of the desk and listened.

  “In that prison where a group of your men and your brother held several American soldiers who were investigating you, one survived, and not before taking out everyone in the prison, including Daphnee. He also had help on the outside, other military men, mercenaries who took it upon themselves to go in and rescue him at the same time. Do you want to know who killed Daphnee and who the other men were?”

  “Who?” Aurik asked.

  “Clark Mondave killed your brother. Dane and Knox Mondave, along with Falco and Mercury James, were the mercenaries who showed up and finished off the outside guards. Now tell me that you don’t want revenge. That you don’t want to get your hands on Pina, who spent the night at their home, probably fucking them,” Liam said.

  Aurik looked at Ivan. “They must die or, at minimum, suffer.”

  “Taking Pina will definitely destroy them,” Ivan said to him.

  “She just called Nolan and gave him her resignation. She’s forwarding all documents and financials to him and doesn’t plan on physically going to see him so grabbing her as we planned will not work,” Liam told him.

  “We’ll think of something,” Ivan said.

  “I can help further, Aurik. I have someon
e on the inside feeding us information. This is why my plan will work. I’ll contact him. He’ll know when we can strike.”

  Aurik hesitated only a moment as he thought about his brother and how his throat had been slit. He’d wondered for years how it had happened and how men got away with it. Now he knew, and his bloodline to his brother was deeper than any connection to criminal power.

  “Do it. Let me know the plan.” He disconnected the call and looked at Ivan.

  “I can finally achieve my own revenge against my brother’s killer. Hopefully, when it is done, Molokai will understand and forgive me for disobeying a direct order.”
