  “I’m afraid so.”

  “Then Avi’s idea of wanting to bring these wolves here to our land cannot be accepted.”

  “At least not until we find out why Shay pack Alphas are doing this and who is backing them. They had like a hundred members left, and the territory they own is rundown and ancient, even their practices are. Alusia said that when she was interviewing these women, that they all seemed to mention these phone calls between the men holding them and someone by the name of Trolytes.”

  “Trolytes?

  “Yes, we don’t know who he is, but we’re working on finding out. I’ll keep you posted, and hopefully this information brings us closer to finding the ringleader to this mess.”

  “Very well. Thanks for everything, Preston.”

  “Kurtis, it’s important. We have to hunt this wolf down. We find out who Trolytes is, then we may find out who tried to sell Avi to the Shay Alphas,” Loki said to Kurtis.

  “We’re trying our best. I’ve got men out all over the place investigating, but they keep hitting walls. Have you heard from Buschool yet? No one has gotten word on him. It’s like he disappeared, and it isn’t like him. We don’t even know if he knows Avi was found.”

  “I know, and I’m worried about him. I know he’s a vampire, but you heard Alusia. She said that one of the groups of soldiers from Keuric pack smelled magic. Black magic. I can’t help but wonder if Delia is around or someone else.”

  She noticed Kurtis’s expression change, and he looked around the room at the few other wolves helping with the investigation. They were busy gathering information. He stepped closer to Loki and she felt her heart race, her wolf perked up knowing there was a mutual attraction.

  “I don’t want you too close to this investigation with Delia. Let the others handle it.”

  “I feel I can help with this. You don’t own me, Kurtis,” she said to him, knowing that they were mates, and yet he and his brothers hadn’t claimed her yet. There were always missions and responsibilities, yet he tried to keep tabs on her and act in control. He exhaled. “I care about you, Loki, and don’t want you involved in something this dangerous, especially when dealing with a witch like Delia. You remain diligent in trying to find out who this Trolytes wolf is and who he is connected to. I’m going to work with my brothers as well as Rule, Temerec, and Law to see if we can get some inside information on Collink and Mosek Shay. The Circle of Elders wants documented information proving the Shay pack Alphas illegal actions, so they can bring charges against them. That will ensure Avi’s safety, as well.”

  “Understood. Be safe, Kurtis,” she said to him.

  “You, as well.” He gave her a soft smile, and they stared at one another a few moments before his phone rang. He answered it and walked away.

  She exhaled. Maybe when all of this was over, she could explore this attraction to Kurtis more freely. Right now though, she was really worried about Buschool, and so will Avi once she is informed. If anything happened to Avi, he would have nothing left to live for at all.
