  “If there are many of them, then they would reunite their own pack.”

  “I believe that I was meant to intervene in that abduction of Malacay and her children, as well as the others in that tunnel. You had your cousins Bider, Viper, and Scor there on a hunch of sorts. What were the chances that it was them to assist? That they helped us to get Malacay and the others here? Where you and your brothers and teams came to assist and fight along with us before we were all taken or killed? Mates? Come on, we need to see this as a plan of the gods.”

  “Then explain your position in this unit. Explain the secrets you hold and seem unwilling to reveal to us despite what you just said to me.” She pulled back and began to put her sweater on. Her gaze went to the doorway, and he knew his brothers were there listening.

  “I will explain, and together we’ll help Malacay and her people.”

  She stared up at him. Her head tilted back nearly to her shoulders, and she licked her lips.

  “The fact that I had been chosen as princess to Limorte after Capella died has been kept a secret for good reason.”

  Corporal glanced at Toby and Lodge and then back at Luna. “Good reason why?” Lodge asked.

  “Honestly, when it’s revealed the power I will hold, the access I will be granted to funds, to treasures, the pack wealth will be immense. I will instantly become a target for many things. You three will become targets, as well.”

  Her revelation affected him more than he let on. That expression of fear on her face did him in. Did she think they weren’t up for the challenge? Before he could say a word, Toby pressed against her back, wrapping her in his arms at the same time. She tilted her head to the side as he pressed his lips to her neck.

  “Then the gods chose wisely, mate. My brothers and I are superior warriors. We’ve battled some of the worst, most fierce enemies to our existence. We will protect you with everything we have, and together we will help you rule your pack as princess.”

  She turned in his arms and hugged Toby tight. Corporal looked at Lodge, who gave him a serious scowl. An uneasy feeling hit Corporal in his gut. With all the recent trouble across the land, and against an enemy who seemed to be a ghost, the last thing they needed was a battle of their own to protect their mate and her position in her pack. The gods definitely had plans for them, and just like any other battle, mission, fight, or attempt to destroy Keuric or Saint pack, Corporal and his brothers would be ready. They had to be, because now they had their woman, their mate to protect, and life before felt as if it didn’t even exist.

  “Why is it that every time I make some progress, there’s another small group of shits to destroy that progress? Where the fuck do all these Keuric and Saint pack members come from? Why is it they seem to be the only ones standing in the way of my progress?” Roovio yelled.

  “Our focus has been on chipping away at the weaker packs. Progress is happening, sir. It’s just that with more exposure comes defiance,” Corpius told him.

  “Exposure, you say? Then be sneaky doing it. Find a way to infiltrate their packs and weaken their resolve. What about the other women who were right by Luna’s side protecting Alexandra? It seems to me that these women are important somehow, and not just because they turn out to be mates to people of importance. We need to know what they know, and we need to set a trap.”

  “What do you have in mind?” Corpius asked.

  “Talk to our wolves on the inside. Bider, Viper, and Scor from Keuric pack have really been pains. They’ve killed more of our soldiers than our commanders planned on. Set up a trap. I want them taken out, or at least sidetracked while the others set forth the inside intel and plan. When the time comes, I want to be able to give the order, and then watch our enemies die as our allies live amongst them, fooling them all.”

  “We’ve been working on that with some of the prisoners from Merker pack. They’re angry and they’re scared. Easily manipulated, so we can use them as we like. When the war comes, they can die and it won’t matter. At that point, both Keuric pack and Saint pack will be annihilated.”

  “Do it. Get me something good and quickly.”

  Chapter Five

  “I’ve got something. I’m pretty sure this is the place we’ve been looking for. Getting closer is the only way to be, sire,” Avi said to Loki and Alusia.

  “We need to get the approval,” Loki said to her.

  “Loki, you contact Kurtis and I’ll get a closer look.”

  “You be careful. The last thing we need is for you to get caught,” Alusia said to her.

  “I can squeeze along the perimeter and get into one of the side windows. Might as well use my small frame for something good.”

  “You’ve done so much for Keuric and Saint packs,” Loki said to her.

  “Yeah, and they aren’t even my pack.”

  “They could be. I hear they are allowing anyone who has lost their packs because of the violence to become part of their packs,” Alusia said to her.

  “That’s because they are good, not evil. The gods have led us all in various directions in our lives. I never would have thought I would be living here in Texas after years in New York,” Avi said to them.

  “Well, we’re all family here, and when this is done, when the danger is no longer present, we’ll pick our packs to be loyal to, and we’ll set roots and remain together.”

  “Yes, we will, and with an in like Alexandra, we could be sitting pretty,” Alusia said and chuckled.

  “Lucky lady indeed.” Avi gave her friends a wink before she took off toward the building.

  Chapter Six

  “So it is true?” Gathin asked Luna when she walked into the recreational room of the house they were all residing in. She nodded at Gathin and then looked at the rest of the team. Loot, Puna, Gaxey, and Ronan. Gathin exhaled and was definitely pissed off.

  Loot chuckled. “You and that stubborn, hard-core personality are going to be bashing heads with Keuric Alphas left and right.”

  “Hell yeah. I can totally see that,” Gaxey said but smiled at her and then pulled her into his arms to hug her. Puna and Loot followed.

  “This is bad,” Gathin said, holding her gaze with an angry, disgusted look. He had always been protective of her and into her business, making sure that Luna was safe and had what she needed. She hadn’t confided in him or the others about her attraction to Toby, Corporal, and Lodge, or about knowing they were her mates. She was certain if she had, then Gathin would have figured out a way for her to remain hidden and not be part of the transport here.

  “Gathin, it’s her destiny,” Ronan said and then hugged her and gave her a kiss on her cheek.

  “I see they’ve begun the mating process,” he said and moved her hair off her shoulder to reveal the bite marks there. She felt her cheeks warm. She knew they all knew what was going on. Hell, they had to have heard it every time the wolves howled in acknowledgment that they’d found their mate and possessed her. It pretty much was an additional method of ensuring that all wolves nearby knew she was their mate.

  “And your uncle? When are you planning on telling him about this? When are you going to return to Italy to finish what you started?” Gathin asked.

  “What do you mean return to Italy?” Toby asked, walking into the room. She knew her mates were right in the hallway, talking to one of the omegas about some new information.

  “I won’t be returning anytime soon. There are things to be done here, Gathin. It’s obvious that the gods intended all of this to happen. We, as a team, and eventually me as part of Keuric pack as mate to the future Alphas, need to ensure the rescue of Merker pack so we can bring them here and unite them.”

  “Unite them into Keuric pack?” Gathin asked.

  “Of course. We all feel the evil permeating the lands and this realm. Something is brewing. The gods have put in effect any measures they can to help us figure out who is behind all the evil, the massacres of innocent men, women, and children. This is part of the process to build the packs stronger. The ones capable of defeating the evil or at least attempting to when it is revealed. I want the five of you to get in touch with our contacts and really push for information. Toby and his brothers, through their intel, found out about ten locations near and around South Carolina. His men will give you what they have, and you’ll start planning. We’ll work on infiltrating those facilities and locations one by one, starting tomorrow,” she said to them.

  “Tomorrow?” Ronan asked.

  “Yes. I’m afraid if we wait too long, then the ones responsible for abducting Merker pack will kill them all. They are of no real use to them now. We have Malacay and her children. Two girls and the son, and heir to the pack. They unite with Keuric an
d the power grows.”

  “Just as you uniting with them could change many things here and abroad,” Ronan said to her, and she nodded in acknowledgment but didn’t expand or indicate that she’d told her mates she was a princess, with power and control over about ten thousand wolves across Europe. That was considered very small, but the money, the jewels, ancient and irreplaceable, meant that whomever she mated would be wealthy beyond anyone in this realm. That gave them power, and that was what Costaldo was after.

  “We got something,” Corporal said to the team gathered around the meeting area. His brothers, Luna, her team of soldiers, Bider, Viper, and Scor were there and packing their gear.

  “It’s not far from here, which is crazy. How the hell we didn’t pick up on any transports like this we don’t know, but that’s going to change,” Corporal stated.

  “We need to break up in teams to get this done. We don’t know who are prisoners and who are the enemy,” Toby said to them.

  “Who has eyes on the place as we speak?” Bider asked.

  “Friends of mine,” Luna stated, and caught the expressions on the men’s faces. They would need to learn quickly that Luna wasn’t just a mate to three Alphas from Keuric pack, but also a fighter and warrior herself.

  “Okay then, who is backup for your friends right now?” Scor asked her.

  “Kurtis, and other members of local packs now allegiant to Saint and Keuric packs. There are only ten of them there,” she replied.

  “Then let’s move. Any intel they get, have them pass it through to the radio,” Viper said.

  They scattered, got into their vehicles, and prepared to leave. Luna rechecked her weapons and zipped up her jacket as Corporal stared down at her. “I don’t think I want you there. It’s a risk.”
