Story amongst soldiers in the field, other agents I personally know, was that she risked her life, became a prisoner of Kasmul for the better part of six months, and in doing so saved multiple troops of soldiers, some undercover informants whose covers were blown, and prevented a triple simultaneous terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Something the higher-ups obviously didn’t want to leak.”

  “Because they’re connected to those politicians you mentioned,” Stone said.

  “Exactly.

  “So did she live?”

  “I don’t know. Never got the full story. It’s like she disappeared. Somehow escaped from Kasmul’s estate and just vanished.”

  “That’s pretty impressive shit, but are you sure she didn’t screw up?”

  “Not from my sources she didn’t. In fact, I heard a rumor that Gable knew her well, and she saved his ass and his team’s from being ambushed and killed.”

  “That’s crazy.”

  “Yeah, well, she got out and she lived. With all the information I’ve been able to gather, I’d say it’s inevitable that Zedock and the team will eventually be going in. I just don’t want it turning into a bloodbath. Just when it seems we know who the good guys are, we get sideswiped by people who should have been loyal and trustworthy. My only option is to formulate a plan based on the intel and confirmed info I have, and then have your teams initiate the plan.”

  “They’ll be ready. I know you wouldn’t put them in harm’s way intentionally. Deciding whether it is worth it or not will come from a higher power,” Stone said to him.

  “Indeed it will. In the interim, I want to pull one of your other teams onto a bit of recon work. I want you to head it, Stone.”

  “You’re talking about my team? Axel, Divo, and Parker?”

  “Yes. I’ll send you the details. Don’t take it lightly, and don’t trust anyone. I will give you your contact. They’re one of mine.”

  “Got it. We’ll talk soon,” Stone said, and ended the call.

  As he leaned back in the chair, he ran his fingers through his hair. This shit was getting worse and worse. Good men were lost and no one seemed to give a rat’s ass. He got the alert on his phone and his computer. He sat forward in his seat and opened the secure e-mail from The Greek. He stared at the screen and knew this wasn’t going to be as easy as it appeared. Seemed like there was some digging to do, and a bit of recon, right in the state capital of Texas.
