  When the door opened and he saw the blood on her dress, her pale complexion, and her tears, he clenched his teeth. She ran into his arms and sobbed. Fedarro wouldn’t talk to the detectives, but Collin did and heard what they were saying.

  “She’s very lucky to be alive, Mr. Fiorre. She saved a lot of lives. It’s a pretty cut-and-dry case, but we have some concerns,” the detective said, and two others joined them.

  “What concerns?” Collin asked.

  “The guy she killed in self-defense is part of the Puentez gang. Not sure if you know them, but they’re not exactly a nice group of individuals. This is Detective Merkel. He’s part of the DEA and gang unit and has been investigating some recent situations in a neighborhood in the Bronx. There’s a connection with the Picatta family and some gripe they have with the Puentez over drug dealing. We think that’s what this hit was all about. It just so happened that your girlfriend was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” the detective said, and the other guy, Merkel, looked at Gisella.

  “I may have further questions for her as we continue the investigation, especially since she knows the Picatta men so well.”

  “She no longer has a relationship of any kind with them,” Fedarro stated firmly.

  “We understand. She explained how she knew them, how she no longer associates with them. It seems legit, but like I said I may need to contact her again. This might not be over,” Merkel stated.

  Oh it’s over. I’m personally going to make fucking sure it is over.

  “I said I would help you with whatever you needed,” Gisella stated as she pulled back and looked at the detective.

  Fedarro was amazed by her strength and felt her clutch the waist of his shirt as if getting strength from him. He caressed her hip.

  “I know you did, and we appreciate that. I hope your friend is okay. From what I got from the hospital, he’s in stable condition.” The other detective gave her a smile.

  “I appreciate you calling for me, Detective Brooks,” she said.

  He nodded. “We’ll be in touch.”

  Fedarro pulled her along, with Collin following and Lenox leading the way. When they got into the elevator, Collin kissed her temple.

  “We were so scared, Gisella. We could have lost you.”

  Tears rolled down her cheeks. “I know. I was scared, too, but something came over me when Ziek got shot.” She covered her mouth with her hand and sobbed.

  “Shhh, baby, it’s over. He’s going to be okay. You saved him,” Fedarro told her.

  She looked at Lenox and reached out to him. Lenox’s eyes narrowed, and then he touched Gisella’s hand, and she squeezed it tight. He nodded at her, and she released it. Lenox faced forward, and Fedarro saw the emotion in his guard’s eyes. His men respected and cared for Gisella. She had risked her life to save them, to save Ziek, and now she could be in trouble with some shit-fucking gang. Not going to happen.

  “We’re taking you home so you can shower, change, and rest,” Collin said to her and kissed the top of her head.

  “No, please, Collin, take me to the hospital. I need to see Ziek.”

  “He’s fine, Gisella. He’s in great hands. The best,” Collin said and caressed her hair.

  She shook her head. “I need to get the last images out of my head, of him lying on my lap with his shoulder bleeding, his leg, too, and that pale face. Please. I need to see that he’s alive and going to be okay.”

  “Okay, baby. We’ll go there. Then we’re taking care of you,” Collin told her.

  “I don’t give a fuck. An apology isn’t enough. They shot up one of my guards and nearly killed my woman. They’re lucky only one of their men was killed because right now, I’m thinking they need a few more to lose their fucking lives,” Fedarro said into the phone. He was outside of the hospital and talking to Mateus.

  “We’re taking care of it. I understand your concerns, and by the way the Puentez gang reached out to us so quickly I would say their guys fucked up. They confirmed that they did not know Gisella was your woman or that your guard was nearly killed. The guys they sent to do that scare hit overdid it. Their leader already took care of the other two men himself.”

  “I’m furious, Mateus, fucking furious. You have no idea. Gisella and Ziek could have died. Lenox, too.”

  “I know. I heard what she did. That’s one pretty fucking tough and amazing woman you and Collin have. Why don’t you take some time to be alone with her and let us handle this for now?”

  “I want in and to be kept abreast of the situation. I have a plan of action. When this settles down in a few days, I’ll let you know what the next steps are.”

  “So then you know about York Saint James?”

  “Yes. I got a call an hour after the shooting. For a man who claims he wouldn’t dare try to start something with our family, he sure did fuck up this plan of his big time. If I don’t get the answers and respect I deserve, then he can forget about owning that club, that neighborhood, or anything else in the vicinity of this area. I’ll take it all from him,” Fedarro said, and Mateus agreed before he disconnected the call.

  “Those crazy fucking assholes. How could they fuck this up so bad? Fedarro Fiorre wants my ass on a platter. He knows about all of it, and somehow my plan to fuck over Picatta has now put me on the Fiorre family shit list. Fuck,” York St. James stated to Stollen.

  “What are we going to do? Take out the Puentez gang ourselves? It could clean the slate and put us back in good graces with the Fiorre family.”

  “What choice do we have? We don’t need that family pissed at us. Plan a meeting with Fedarro and Collin. We’ll offer them part of the sales on what we make at the club and our territory. I think that will be the only way to get into their better graces and not wind up six feet under. What a fucking mess.”

  “What are you going to offer them?” Stollen asked.

  “Twenty percent?”

  Stollen laughed. “You’ll be lucky if they let you keep fifty and go half. Gisella is their woman, Ziek a main guard and friend.”

  “You’re right.” He clenched his teeth. “If this is going to cost me this fucking much on this parcel of territory, then I’m going to get some peace of mind and revenge, too. Get the team together. Have Puentez and his gang work out a plan to take out Picatta completely. All their warehouses, their businesses, the drugs, everything. I want them stripped of it all and running for their lives.”

  Gisella took Ziek’s hand into hers and kissed the top of it. She stared at him lying in the hospital bed, all the wires and things attached to him, the bandages on his leg, and the sling and bandages on his shoulder. He was sleeping, and tears rolled down her cheeks.

  Roman, Scotch, and Lenox were there, as well as Collin. Fedarro had disappeared when they first arrived, and she asked Collin several times if Cobra was with Fedarro and watching over him.

  Collin pressed up against her back and wrapped his arms around her midsection, and she held onto him.

  “He’s going to be fine. He’s a tough one.”

  “I know he is. He’s Superman,” she said, and the guys chuckled. It lightened up the atmosphere, and she turned to look at Lenox. “I won’t give you a hard time anymore about keeping close and watching over me okay,” she said to him and the others.

  “After this, we’re going to be worse, Gisella,” Lenox said very firmly.

  She nodded and stepped out of Collin’s hold. She hugged Lenox, then Scotch, and then Roman, seemingly shocking them if their wide eyes and glances toward Collin were any indication.

  “What the hell is this?” Fedarro asked, coming into the room with Cobra.

  She smiled at him and hugged Collin tight.

  Chapter 13

  “How is Gisella?” Morano asked the moment they walked into the penthouse. It was him, Vito, Angelo, Mateus, Major, Bella, and Patrice.

  “She had a rough night,” Collin told them.

sp; “Where is she now?” Patrice asked after she and Bella gave kisses hello.

  “She should be coming out. She knew you were all coming,” Fedarro said.

  Then Gisella entered the room. Bella and Caprice went right to her, hugging her and smiling. She looked beautiful, put together despite the rough night she’d had. The slim-fitting black sweater dress accentuated her every curve. The tall, dark-heeled boots made her look like some supermodel. Her hair was down, cascading around her shoulders and back, and her makeup was done perfectly. He could see the redness in her eyes still, but all things considered she was tougher than they had expected.

  “Why don’t you ladies enjoy some drinks and talk time, and we can take care of some business,” Collin said to them.

  Gisella locked gazes with Fedarro, who gave her a wink. She had worried about him retaliating, which had led to a discussion about the rules of not asking any questions about their business. It was none of her concern, and her job was to be safe, happy, and secure as their woman.

  Fedarro walked toward her, pulled her close, and gave her a kiss, then whispered into her ear, “Enjoy being with your friends. I’ll be right down the hallway and Lenox will remain right outside the door.”

  She nodded, and he released her to Collin, who kissed her cheek and gave her hip a tap before he walked away with the men.

  Once they were in the secure meeting room along with Roman, Cobra, and the other guards, Mateus began.

  “So you are seriously going to meet with York about this?”

  “I’ve thought about it. There are two ways to see this meeting. One, if I do it over the phone and say yes to him sharing some profit with me, then it could make him eventually do something stupid. Two, if I go in person, and Collin and I look into his eyes and make him understand that we have the power to end his life in a snap, then he may not ever fuck up again. He needs to know that,” Fedarro told them.

  “In person would be better for both of you to ensure that message is received loud and clear. We can arrange a safe location out of the view of prying eyes,” Mateus said.

  “Yes, the DEA and that detective, Merkel, have been snooping around, but I don’t think they’ll snoop near you guys or any of us, not after the calls Major and Morano made,” Vito told them.

  “Very good. I heard that the funeral services for Romando are tomorrow,” Angelo said cautiously.

  Fedarro narrowed his eyes at him.

  “Gisella will not be attending, nor will she be going anywhere near that family. From my understanding, York is taking over their territory along with the Puentez gang, who will be gaining some additional power,” Collin told them.

  “We heard that, too. Hopefully they remember they’re still at the bottom,” Vito said.

  “If they need a reminder, then we’ll be sure to have the proper individuals enlighten them. Now onto the next step. We’ll meet with York. I think he’ll be offering thirty percent of profit, but I’m going to make him squirm and demand fifty,” Fedarro stated.

  “Fifty? That might not be reasonable,” Mateus said.

  “I think it will be sufficient for the next year, then forty percent the following year, and thirty percent for the remainder of time,” Fedarro stated firmly. “That is reasonable considering we nearly lost Gisella and Ziek to business that had nothing to do with any of us. This aggravation has brought on the DEA and an investigation.”

  “We’re covered across the board. They can investigate all they like, but I don’t think it will last. My sources say that Merkel is after the Picatta family. They’re going down. Once that happens, then Merkel disappears, along with the DEA. They’ll get what they want or go after the Puentez gang. That’s York’s problem,” Major said.

  “Yes it is,” Collin said.

  They discussed some other business and talked about security at the new club and plans for the next week. Then they joined the women in the main part of the penthouse.

  “So you’re not going to the funeral then?” Bella asked Gisella.

  “No. I would have considered it under other circumstances, like if I wasn’t caught in the middle of their problems and Ziek wasn’t hurt, but considering that all they’ve done was lie to me and put me at risk, I don’t need them in my life. Fedarro was right, and I’m safest with him and Collin, who will protect me and truly care.”

  “That’s good then. I wondered why you had stayed involved with the Picattas anyway, especially with Emanuel and Iglesias wanting you to be their woman,” Bella said to her.

  “I think I held onto the fact that they were Vender’s cousins and family. I was a part of them for four years and they reminded me of him, or their resemblances somehow kept Vender a part of my life despite him being gone. I don’t know,” Gisella said.

  “Well, you are safest with Fedarro and Collin. They obviously care so much about you. So when are you moving in here?” Patrice asked and winked.

  Bella chuckled and leaned back into the couch. She sipped her sweet tea, and Gisella worried her bottom lip.

  “They haven’t asked me to yet.”

  “You sound unsure. I mean after everything that has happened, don’t you trust them fully?”

  “There are things, Patrice, that I need to still work out, but I do trust them despite those things. I just want to know that this is real and will last and not just temporary for them.”

  “I would say by their cousins’ perspective, and knowing Fedarro and Collin like Mateus and Major do, that they’re hung up on you and don’t plan on letting you go. Just saying.” Bella shrugged.

  “I agree. Morano, Vito, and Angelo talked about never seeing their cousins so serious and intense like they are when it comes to you. Morano was with them when they got the call from Lenox. It was intense, and he was ready to move heaven and earth to get to you,” Patrice explained.

  “I say if there is anything holding you back from truly trusting them and accepting them as your men, then you need to get those things out in the open. You need to tell them what those things are,” Bella stated.

  Gisella nodded and thought about the information Romando had Miranda tell her to try to get her to leave Fedarro and Collin. Did it really matter, though? She had accepted them whether they had a hand in Vender’s death or not. Vender had chosen the criminal side of life. He had chosen to go against the ones in power, and he had suffered for it. None of it mattered anymore. Only being with Fedarro and Collin and loving them did.

  “We’re fucked. It’s over. We got nothing left because of York. Half our men are dead, the others disappeared. Now what?” Iglesias asked Emanuel.

  “I can’t stand those men. Fucking Fedarro and Collin Fiorre are assholes. They caused this.”

  “No, Emanuel, we did. We fucked up by trying to expand our territory and trust a man like York. Obviously we were the ones being fooled and used. It was his plan from the get-go.”

  “What do we do then? Get out of here? Leave the city? What? Romando is dead. The Puentez gang has taken over our drug routes, our supply houses, the whole territory, and left us with shit. I’m not standing by and letting Fedarro and Collin get away with having the last laugh. We need to work things out so we can still run somewhat of a business.”

  “Emanuel, it’s over,” Iglesias said to him.

  “It’s not over,” he said, and then two of their men walked into the room.

  “The Puentez gang took the last warehouse over. Ten of the men were killed. We were told that York is sharing profit of the club and our drug business with the Fiorre brothers. Fedarro and Collin now own more the half of everything that used to belong to the Picatta family. It’s over.”

  Emanuel slammed his hand down on the table, and Iglesias roared in anger.

  “We will get the last laugh, something that will surely hit the Fiorre family hard and specifically Fedarro and Collin.”
